Jake Zamansky testing for Spyder's 2010 speed suit.
Spyder came out to the San Diego, CA Low Speed Wind Tunnel to test their latest materials for speed suits and ski cross pants. Jake Zamansky and Steve Nyman were the two USST athletes who traded off every 5mins testing at 30,40,50,60 and 70mph. The goal was to see which material gives Spyder the best advantage in aero dynamics. This is difficult testing, but test after test helps reduce variables in a controlled environment. For a consistent test, a bike seat was used in the tunnel for easy repeatability and a high body position. That exposed more material and it was easier to duplicated every time. The techs running the test used video monitors and drew outlines of the guys to make sure they were in the same position each time. Nyman also tested the pants Errol Kerr and I used for ski cross last season and some new proto types. Thanks buddy! We've got more speed for passing and pulling away from our competition on the sx track. You can see he rocked the Spyder stealth to complete his look. Watch out for him to bust out the half shirt next year on the podium. Marco, where were you? You owe these boys. That skin tight suit of yours will be fatser than ever. Spyder's commitment in testing like this is the reason they're the world leader in ski competition. This pic is the wood prop that generates all the wind in the circular rectangle shaped tunnel. The team who made it happen from Spyder, Nyman, Zamansky and the wind tunnel techs.

Today I doubled down on a morning moto and evening surf! My first day back on the bike since October. Loving it! Although I was hacking out there and had trouble hanging on, it was nice to float some big jumps and bang through the whoops. I rode my new Honda '09 CRF450R at Pala Raceway. What a ride. Amazing how every year Honda's keep getting better. Pala is a newly opened track that's under an hour drive from Encinitas. It's sandy with fun jumps and they keep the morning groomed track watered to the hilt. Loamy outside berms, inside ruts, tables, doubles, a big 4th gear step up and a nasty set of whoops that challenge the grip and sucked the life out of my arms. Those whoops were nasty later in the day. Seabass got worked on our last session. Poor guy, he went down hard and I was right behind him to see it all. His rear end kicked out and pitched him to the left and then right. Going 40 sideways through whoops usually doesn't have a good outcome. No choice at that point, but to jump off the bike. Tony hit the ground hard. Ronnie Renner and Victor Sheldon both came up on us to see the carnage and shook their heads. Holding his wrist and on his knees I knew it wasn't good. Slowly we loaded up and rolled out. Maybe some lunch would take away the pain. Our crew of Kev, Scotty, Victor and Tony found a nice cheap n' tasty taco stand across from the Pala Casino. His wrist was so swollen and painful to move, but still managed to use a knife and cut into his burrito. If you know Seabass, he's tough as nails. Tony was off to LA and the hospital. Turns out he has a dislocated Lunate bone in his hand and a broken Scafoid. Damn my Hangtown and Mammoth buddy is going to have to sit it out for awhile. S**T Sucks. I made it back home to the family, played with the kids for the afternoon and then tucked em into bed and ended the day off with a sunset surf. Take away Tony's deal and it was a good day. How can you beat a same day moto and surf? Well it is California and I could have got a few runs on the skis for a hat trick. Good luck using your left hand for everything Seabass! Keep it clean.
