This is what we need on the ski hill.  Sugar Bowl is planning on building a track for ski cross athletes to train on this winter in February before Olympics.
Looks fun on bikes, but you go faster and bigger on skis.  The Cypress track for the Olympics has some good banks like this track.  We just need more tech sections like these BMX guys have.

Chris Benchetler, Atomic Pro, is heading out of Mammoth before it snows to come down for some waves here in San Diego.

My friend Axel Naglich from Kitzbuhel asked me to go on this trip a few years ago.  Thanks, but...No way.  I'm a skier and not a ski mountaineer.  I don't like heights and get enough of a rush every year on Alaskan peaks of 1,500-3000 vertical.  I love skiing and dream of powder runs in AK, but have no intentions of putting myself at risk like this and battling the fierce weather mother nature delivers.  This is a powerful film using the world's best cameras capturing what it's like where not many humans have ever gone or for a few unfortunate, have died trying to ski this mountain.  Last spring I had the chance to talk with Axel on what he endured.  It was the ultimate test for him and that's saying a lot.  He's accomplished some incredible feats.  I'm happy he made it home safe and lived his dream of skiing the longest decent ever.

Travis is one of our top young guns in the US for race and he has the free ski skills too.  He just switch to Atomic and had this to say,
"Im loving them.  Its making all the difference in the world. So far I've won two out of two DH's and podiumed in all 4 SGs winning two on the A-Bombs.   I should have made the switch a long time ago."
T
Here he is last winter in Tahoe enjoying a little quiet time off the race hill.

Once he gets on the Atomic Atlas I'll have a tougher time beating him to our next straightline.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MSP Films’ World Premiere of "IN DEEP” Sells Out at the Boulder Theater

BOULDER, Colorado, (September 19th) - The world premiere of MSP Films’ latest ski movie, “In Deep, the skiing experience” returned to the Boulder Theater for the first time in eight years this evening.  With two sold out shows and a Saucerboy costume contest, MSP kicked off the 2009 winter season with a bang.

Star athletes from “In Deep” were on site to sign posters and meet and greet fans, friends, and partners.  Athletes included Mark Abma, James Heim, Daron Rahlves, Rory Bushfield, Hugo Harrisson, Bobby Brown, and Colby West.

MSP took a new approach this year choosing to document the experience surrounding the sport of skiing.  Each segment was built around different aspects of the sport.  Highlights from the film included the “Lines” segment, which helps illustrate each individual’s unique vision of skiing big mountain lines.  A standout newcomer to the MSP team, Henrik Windstedt, has a breakthrough segment that transitions into some of the fastest skiing you will see in the Alaskan backcountry, courtesy of Daron Rahlves, Chris Davenport, and Henrik himself.

Probably the most anticipated and powerful segment that comes out of “In Deep” is the tribute segment to Shane McConkey.  When his name came to screen the venue was filled with constant cheers and people to their feet.  Tears were shed, laughter was shared, and Shane was finally put to rest for many fans.  “Man, what a great night!” exclaimed Steve Winter, co-oounder of MSP.  “Both the 7:00 and 9:30 shows went off.  There were so many great moments, for me the introduction to the 9:30 premiere was one of the greatest ski movie moments ever.  The skier intros were insane and when Shane McConkey was announced the roar of the crowd was deafening and for me the defining moment of the night.”

"In Deep" will be touring the United States and the rest of the world for the next three months and is available on DVD and Blu-ray disc.  For more information visit www.skimovie.com.

MSP Films would like to thank all of their partners for their continued support: Helly Hansen, Subaru, Red Bull, Salomon, Dakine, Discrete, Coreupt, and Powder Magazine.

Sea Side Cardiff, CA video

waves of the year. Early morn at Ponto delivered and my neighbor Steve and I got some good ones. Lining up north of the river mouth rocks was the spot. One firing hour then I had to be back at the house. Jeremy Jones called at 8:15am to tell me he and Hatchett were heading out to Sea Side. I had some things to do then rallied out for round two. Sea Side looked real good, but it was crowded and at least five cameras were on the beach. I wanted to see Jer so I went out there figuring I wouldn't get many due to the fact that guys like Mick Fanning were racing down the line. But hey, it was worth it to see his speed in person. He rips and I wear his signature Reefs. The bummer was Jeremy was not out there. If you got turned off by the crowd Jer, too bad for you. Would have been worth it. Don my other neighbor showed up and we had some fun ones. Hope there are more days like that coming.

Good for on the road, but  I'll still flip through the pages as soon as it finds it's way to me by snail mail.

Red eyed and ready to hit the sack after 24hrs in Chicago for a USOC media event. 300 media from the Nation showed up to interview 2010 Vancouver Olympic bound athletes. It all started off at dinner with Red Bull mid west event and athlete managers Derek and Luke. Then it was off to a night shoot with Men's Journal. 7am kicked off the day w/ The Today Show, The Weather Channel to Kids Sports Illustrated. I had over 20 interviews and photo shoots. Chicago is an amazing city with a ton of history. Driving to the Palmer House Hilton along the river you see a ton of really cool old style architecture. From intricate concrete buildings to low span red iron bridges. Chicago inspired a thought to take my kids to a few of the nations cities. I'm not by any means a city person, but a little culture is important for everyone. I heard from some locals that the Architecture River Boat ride is a must do. Here's a little trivia for ya. Chicago hosted the World's Fair in 1893.

I have not used my site to ever leverage any political issues, but this should be on the minds of all Americans.  As an athlete, husband and a father, I can't imagine not having the choice to private healthcare.  This sums up the healthcare issue.  Passed on by my friend and motocross pro/ RacerX contributer David Pingree.  WATCH IT.

Back in Encinitas. Didn't get lucky and have much for surf welcoming my return, but the water is warm. I'll take anything after the last 3 months in Tahoe. DStreet was today's pick.

Here's a cool site if you like to see some racing!  I was just given a heads up on this.   Some video of my World Cup runs at Beaver Creek.  In 4 years at Beaver Creek in the DH I went 3rd, 1st, 2nd and 1st.  Dec 2005 was my last year racing there.  Such a fun hill to ski.  I'll be back this year watching and giving a few people an expereince of a life time by taking them on the race hill and meeting some of the big stars on the World Cup and all of the US SKi Team boys!

here's the link and there are more to check out:  Rahlves 2005 DH win Beaver Creek, CO USA
